On Saturday, November 19, United Way of Greater Los Angeles hosted its 5th annual 5K Run/Walk to end homelessness. The walk began with a warm welcome from Elise Buik, CEO of the United Way of Greater Los Angeles, and Homewalk’s Honorary Chair, Kobe Bryant, who thanked the crowd for their participation and reminded everyone that homelessness is a solvable problem.
As in previous year’s, the 5K route included an educational journey which highlighted the difficulties of being homeless and the need for permanent housing. Participants were also able to learn about UWGLA’s community partners by visiting the dozens of informational booths present at the event.
This year’s HomeWalk was a huge success, drawing approximately 10,000 people and, so far, generating more than $400,000 – all of which goes back directly into the community to fund permanent supportive housing solutions to homelessness. Interested in making a donation? You can still sponsor your favorite walker/runner or make a general donation by visiting www.homewalkla.org.
Thank you to all of UWGLA’s community partners and the thousands of Los Angelenos that participated in this year’s HomeWalk. Together we will end homelessness!
